Pousada Barão de Forrester is located in the center of the village of Alijó and, although still integrated in the Pousadas de Portugal network, it currently has an independent administration. Being the only one inserted in the Demarcated Region of the Douro, this charming Pousada is installed in a building built in 1944, to welcome this unit. The name of the Pousada is a tribute to Joseph James Forrester, an English businessman, settled in Portugal during the 19th century, who in 1855 received from the King D. Fernando II the title of Baron for his dedication to the study and valorization of the Douro and Wine of Porto. The character Barão de Forrester, as well as the grandeur of the Douro region were the referential matrix of the interior design. The Douro atmosphere is present in each of the 21 rooms of the unit, sending the visitor to moments and landscapes of the Douro valley. The "Barão" restaurant, located inside the Pousada, is a meeting place with the flavors of Douro, which proposes a varied menu, inspired by traditional Portuguese cuisine and use of local products, highlighting the legendary gastronomic tradition.
